Realizing that if she was going to stay in Costa Rica and serve where there were not a lot of other medical resources, Suzanne returned to Seattle Pacific University and received her Master’s in Leadership of Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner. She then returned to Costa Rica where she became “Supervisor of Health” for the same child care organization for the next 16 years. It was during that time that she adopted two of the most amazing human beings on the planet, the treasures of her heart, who she discovered have ADHD and FASD.
In parenting her two sons, she realized all the wonderful things she knew about working with children at risk/trauma/behavioral symptoms and many complex issues was not enough. She became certified as a Facilitator of the FASCETS Neurobehavioral Model and is a FASCETS Program Director. Suzanne then started her own project called “Created to be Free.” Created to be Free hopes to contribute to the understanding of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and other neurobehavioral conditions such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum, etc. as invisible brain-based physical conditions and help parents, professionals, and the greater community understand, love and celebrate people whose brains work differently. This is her greatest passion in life!
Suzanne and family has a golden retriever therapy dog (Bobby) who accompanies her almost everywhere and a cat named Shaka. Bobby is now a frequent Friday visitor available to see patients with Suzanne! Learn more. Suzanne loves nature, hiking, birds, reading, kayaking and spending time with friends and family.
